Topic of the Rant Rant Content
Introduction This is the section of the site where i rant on various subjects dealing with the six million dollar man.
Bionic 2.0 too far away As some of you know, i was going to be attending the Binoic 2.0 convention in Tampa Florida... It is unfortunately in LA now instead of Tampa making it too big a trip for me. Whats with that? Tampa is a far less expensive(and shorter) trip for me. So i've had a double whammy this year.... Worst Bionic remake EVER... AND i can't meet the cast of the Six Million Dollar man... They were all going to be there, Oscar Goldman, Rudy Wells AND Steve Austin. It really grinds my gears.
WORST REMAKE EVER SO the idiots at NBC have decided to do a remake of the Bionic Woman(awesome idea) however they have decided to screw up royally by completly changing the premise of the show. Oscar Goldman(Greatest Character ever) isn't even going to be on the show. Jamie Sommers is going to get injured in a car accident instead of sky diving and instead of the "partner" type relationship with Oscar, Jamie and "The new guy" (I won't refer to him by name in protest because it should have been oscar) there will be some kind of combative relationship. My thought is this.... Why do a remake of something if you aren't actually going to remake it. What a kroc.
Value of www.oscargoldman.com You know i get into great debates with people over the value of my domain. Some people say i'll get sued if NBC want the domain name others say i won't. You can't copyright a name. There are characters in TV shows and singers named Oscar Goldman. It's been established that some things are public domain on the internet and a name is one of them. If i were to register oscar there would be no grounds to sue me. Really whats the difference. None. Of course they could take me to court and make me pay thousands to defend myself. I would of course reluctantly sell Oscargoldman.com for 100K.
Being carefull about Copyright infringment It's very difficult to properly maintain a fan site these days. If i use ANY pictures from the six million dollar man series i'm apt to get a threatening email from someone because of it. I've purposely tried to not include any pictures from the series itself(Yes, i know i have 2 that are questionable). The photos i have are pictures of action figures hence no copyright problems. It really is a shame that even though someone creates something in recognition of someone elses work they have to be carefull to avoid getting sued.
Remake of the Bionic Woman So... NBC has ordered a pilot for a new "Bionic Woman" TV series. I must say i am a little disappointed that they decided to not bring back the Six million dollar man first. SMDM was a more successful series and was also the first "bionic" series. What worries me even more is that Jennifer Aniston is rumoured to be starring as Jamie Sommers. I hate her. I hate her almost as much as i hate Celine Dion. And i HATE Celine Dion. Sounds like it won't be until spring until details are released.
Price of Six Million Dollar Action figures on Ebay You know, i can understand that there is a very limited number of Six Million Dollar man Action figures available for collectors to acquire. Believe it or not, there are lots of collectors of Six million dollar man action figures and therein lies the problem. As the popularity of collecting increases they become more and more expensive. Most of us are die hard fans who appreciate what a quality show the SMDM was and what an impact it had on a lot of other shows. The problem i have is that Action figures are getting to be too expensive for the average fan to be able to afford because there are some people that collect merely to make money. These people buy them in bulk so that the supply decreases. It's a typical supply\demand problem, 30 year old toys are hard to come by and when people hoard them it hurts collectors.
Fembots originated on Bionic Woman A little known fact is that the "Fembots" made famous by the Austin Powers franchise actually originated in episodes 2-04,2-05 and 2-06 of the Bionic woman. The episodes were titled "Kill Oscar" and involved female robots "Fembots" replacing several secretaries at the OSI. The robot replacements made their first appearance in "Day of the Robot" a SMDM episode. Most people don't realize that the "Fembots" and the first action figures of a "Fembot" had nothing to do with Austin powers. There are in fact a lot scenes in Austin powers that come from the Six Million dollar man. The first edition of the fembot action figure is selling from between $200 and $300 USD on ebay.
Oscar NEVER gets the girl. It's bogus dude, chicks dig power. My wife said that. Poor Oscar, he works hard, is responsible for many import government secrets and can never meet a woman. Even in the "Return of the Robot maker" episode, Oscar met some women with Steve and ended up getting the shaft and steve getting both women. I think that any woman would be lucky to get a guy like Oscar.
They aren't "Dolls", they're "Moveable Action Figure" So, girls plays with dolls. Boys play with moveable action figures. Steve Austin, like GI Joe, was a moveable action figure. He's not a doll. Dolls go to the mall and shopping in their dream camper. Dolls marry the ever homosexually inclined Ken. Moveable action figures battle the Bionic Big foot while planning their strategy in the Mobile Command Centre. It's a big difference that amateurs don't seem to understand. If you notice on Ebay that the real collectors call them action figures because they don't want to offend the other collectors. MOVEABLE ACTION FIGURES. Let me say it again "MOVEABLE ACTION FIGURES".
Lack of Oscar Goldman Action figure development So here is what i don't understand. Oscar was a character on every episode of the series, yet he only has a single action figure of him. He has one set of clothes, one pair of shoes. I mean, whats with that... Since when does a co-star of a series have only a token action figure and only one action play set(Oscars Office). The series went on for 5 years and they never thought about introducing a new kind of tweed jacket or fancy sailors vest. Perhaps some kind of grey suit or loafers or something. They didn't even give poor Oscar any glasses. He wore glasses on just about every appearance of the show but when the made his action figure they obviously tried to spite him by not including the glasses. The Bionic bigfoot, was only on two 2 part episodes and Bigfoot5 and he had one of the best action figures created for him. Oscar was in over 100 episodes of SMDM AND another ~60 of the Bionic woman and he only has a single action figure with accessories.
Bad Reviews of "A Bioinic Christman Carol" Episode 67 of the series which aired on 12/12/1976 was an episode centered on the "Budge" corporations botched manufacturing of a life support system that would potentially be used on a mission to mars. It was a telling of the classic "A christmas Carol" with a Six Million Dollar Man spin. It was an amusing episode with Steve in one scene seeing a "Bionic Man" action figure in a toy store. The story itself had to do with the owner of the corporation "Mr Budge" being a scrooge at Xmas and making his workers stay late etc. It had all the common bionic features(Jumping, bending, running and a dramatic ripping the door off its hinges scene). Though others comment on its cheesiness i really enjoyed the episode, and thought it was one of the better of the series. It didn't have anything so far fetched that it would be unbelievable(eg space explorers) like in the Bigfoot episodes. It also showed a broader side of Steve, he was concerned when injustice was happening to an innocent family. In my opinion its a two thumbs up.
Lack of a Dr Rudy Wells Action figure. So, Dr Rudy Wells, pioneer in the world of bionics appeared in both the SMDM and the bionic woman. We was played by 2 different actors during the series run. He was only a secondary character and made only brief appearances to repair Steve's bionics or to introduce some new bionic feature(eg. the Blue flash). Dr Wells though did appear in enough episodes to justify an action figure when you consider that Bionic bigfoot and the Venus probe both had action figures made. Poor Dr Rudy Wells, brilliant doctor and researcher, given the shaft by Andre the giant wearing a cheap bear suit and a golf cart covered in a cardboard venus probe shell.
Empty boxes in the "Top Secret Vault" So, in every fight scene of the SMDM it seems to me that the boxes the villian gets thrown into seem empty. I mean seriously, why would you store 25 empty boxes in the top secret nuclear shielded vault. its like you assume that there is going to be a fight and you are trying to protect the combatents from hurting themselves on the steel walls.
